500 Error – Web Site Is Temporarily Unavailable Due To Bsnl?

By mobile virus Posted in: phone virus

This question is for all those users who are using the broadband services of BSNL. Today afternoon I was consistently getting this error while trying to open pages like Google, Rediff, Yahoo etc. When checked from the mobile phone which has another operator the pages loaded normally.
First I thought a virus or something similar might be affecting this but soon other friends of mine called me up depicting the same problem at their end. We are not located at the same place so the culprit according to my eyes is the services of BSNL. This happened last week too but got resolved quickly. This time the sites which I mentioned above are opening now but several other sites which I know should open are giving the same message repeatedly.
Anyone else encountered similar problem today and has anyone managed to find a remedy to this annoying problem?

*ISSUE RESOLVED* I use BSNL Broadband in Bangalore. I’ve been encountering this issue for the past 15 days, had written it off as some server issue, but finally had too much of it and was really getting to me, so decided to look further. Turned out that it was an issue with the DNS i was using.
I believe BSNL by default recommends you set your Primary DNS to 192.168.1.1, no alternate DNS. I set my DNS servers in TCP/IP v4 settings for primary network adapter to those of Google Public DNS [8.8.8.8 (Primary) and 8.8.4.4 (Alternate)] which, it seems, instantly threw all the 500 errors out of the window. Detailed instructions on changing the DNS servers for not-so-tech-savvy: http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
Please follow all instructions, no shortcuts. ! ! AND RESTART YOUR BROADBAND MODEM AFTER THE CHANGES ! ! Please confirm if this worked.

I am facing the same problem very often for several important websites. Though I don’t know how to solve it, but expecting someone to help us out.
Though the message shows temporarily server problem but how it is possible that server is temporarily unavailable for some website whereas it is simultaneously responding normally for others.
If anybody has the answer, pls help us out.
