Computor Help Black Screen Before Startup?

heres what happened:
early morning this weekend, im watchin tv. Then, i remember i have to print somthing before i go out. i get on, everything runs slow (as normal) and i start writing. I was unable to finish and print before it was time to go. so, in a hurry, i put my computor to sleep mode thinking it would be fine untill i returned. one thing lead to another, and i was out for longer than expected (about 12 hours) uppon ariving at home, i found that my computors screensaver was on. I figured my cat had hit the mouse or stepped on the keybord while i was away.
heres where it got weird.
when i further inspected my screensaver (mystify, if that means anything) i found it was frozen. so i shook my mouse, just thinking it was nothing, and it goes to a background i had months ago ( it sometimes did this when i shut it down) but it showed my mouse. nothing else, just an old background and my crusor. thinking i was trapped like that /it was frozen like that, i manualy restarted my computor. it showed the line in the corner (POST, as i recall,) then the screen goes black, insted of showing the windows startup. no mouse, nothing
i tried it again, nothing
so i decided to unplug it and give it a break for the night
next morning, same thing. post and nothing.
My friend sugested safe mode, i tried, but when i select it, it does the text untill it gets to:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\wi… and stops comepleatly
details: its a windows xp, slow, lots of very inportand stuff on it, no viruses (compeatly cleaned since last download) but an error always poped up when i started it saying somthing along the lines of “could not run dwip “or somthing like that.(sorry i couldnt remember, but its been giving that error for months
please help, and sorry about my spelling, im writing this on my friends iphone, my fingers hurt
