A guy apparently from windows phoned up to say that my computer was full of malware and viruses and worms. He started guiding me on what to do on my computer down the phone but the phone line kept cutting off all the time and he sounded foreign. He was pretty technological though and there was a lot of malware on my computer. He said that he definitely was from an authentic company… which got my alarm bells ringing. Anyway in the end he said I had to fill out this form on the computer and I had to put all my credit card details in and stuff to get my computer cleaned out… I didn’t fill it in properly in the end because my mom told me not to. Does it sound like a scam to you or not? He could control my computer from the other end.

Not only was it a scam, it was illegal. It is probably too late now to report this, but in the future if this happens again get all the information you can from the person including a good call back number if possible and report this to the FTC, FCC and your phone company. If they are from out of the country, there may not be much that can be done but at least there will be a record of your complaint. //Steve
100% SCAM
You didn’t go to a remote access site did you? If so, the scammer has access to EVERYTHING on your computer – your files, passwords, emails, contacts, everything
This is an identity theft scam
if he could control your computer you need to immediately have someone check your computer to uninstall anything this criminal put on your computer – malware, keyloggers, etc
You also then need to change any saved passwords you have as this scammer can now access your accounts, online banking or any other sites where you have a password saved
Yeah its a scam. Why would any company care if your computer has malware, and go as far as to contact you? Use logic in situations like this. Make sure you uninstall anything they told you to install.
What i do when they call me is act genuinely worried and just say yep to everything and never actually do it, then just say ill be right back, and put them on hold till they hang up lol. One guy waited over half an hour.
This is a scam there is no way of telling what you have on your computer,if you have decent anti-virus and anti malware you get a problem if they phone again tell them you know its a scam and hopefully they will not bother you .Never let anyone who contacts you have control over your pc
Scam. Microsoft will NEVER call you, nor should any other real company. You should run an antivirus program, maybe take it to a computer repair shop, since if he could control your computer, the ports could still be open and someone else could also control your machine.
(Also, “Windows” isn’t a company. If someone tells you they’re from “Windows”, end the call.)
Ok i used to be hacker but now i stopped because it is just plain mean
This guy is most likely running a scam for the following reasons
Windows operators do not call you
You call them and then they send some1 to u
Never give out credit card details to any1 who doesnt have a proper business signature certified by the law
yes, why would they keep track of your computer viruses?
theres local places to take it to , and when giving credit card information through phone companies hardly do that since it would be very easy for a worker to write it down and steal
its a scam! dont do it, i would even change any passwords you have on your computer just in case, i no someone that this happened to. hope this helps.
I read the first two lines and knew it was a scam! Don’t fall for it, just ignore whatever they tell you to do, failing that call the police! But it is 100% a scam mate!
“He could control my computer from the other end..”
And almost certainly still can.
Stay offline until you can get your machine cleaned up!
Absolutely a scam. It’s someone trying to steal your Identity. Microsoft would never call like that.
Major scam. Windows or any other company would never phone you to say u hav malware on ur computer. Get a good virus checker and ad blocker.
Scam!!!! For sure
Its sounds legit, surrender your details and let him come to your house to clean your computer when your moms at work…
Definitely scam.
sounds like a f*cking scamer to me!
SCAM!!!! Be carefull
Scam. Wow, what a wise mother you have.
Scam, for sure
SCAM
scam!
scam
I was just about to post the same question – the same thing happened to me a couple of days ago. Some guy called me – he new my name and number of my land line (I’m in the book) and asked me if I was running a Widows OS, and told me that Windows was vulnerable to a certain virus, and his company could help clean my computer up. It sounded like he was calling from another country, maybe India. He wanted me to turn my computer on, which I had just shut down a half-hour before, and I wasn’t about to start it again. Apparently he wanted me to go to a certain website.
I wouldn’t have gone to that website anyway – it sounded suspicious. But I was curious to know if anyone else had this happen. Thanks for your post.
