I had Norton antivirus, but unknownst to me, a rogue virus slipped through the antivirus detection and ruined my computer, so now I use the Internet at the library.
I’m just wondering if there is any kind of Internet access I can purchase, i.e., over my cell phone or WebTV, where I will not have to mess with antivirus software.

I can think of several ways to get internet access without the need for antivirus software.
Probably the best way is to buy an Apple Computer. The criminals who create viruses only attack Microsoft Windows based computers.
The next best option would be a game system with an internet browser. The Sony PS3 has a great browser – only downside is the PS3 does not include its own email. No problem getting to Facebook – which a lot of people are now using to replace email.
The original WebTV or the newer MSNTV2 have been abandoned my Microsoft with old browsers. You can no longer get to about 50% of websites including eBay or Facebook. WebTV still has very good email capabilities.
Cell phones such as iPhone of Blackberry’s are great for email but their screens are too small for your primary web access.
There you go – several options!
The short answer is NO.
You can access the internet without AV software if you want. It’s not required. Although, it is highly recommended.
Keep in mind that you always need not only anti-virus but also anti-spyware program running on your PC. Also, remember that you have to update them constantly!
