My Friends Computer Got Infected With A Virus? What Do I Tell Him To Do?

By mobile virus Posted in: phone virus

Okay, I’m on the phone with my friend and he got a malware protection virus that won’t get off of his computer and has locked up his desktop where he can only go to control panel and it won’t let him restore his computer because it keeps asking him to activate the malware protection. I have found that if you get on another different computer that you can download a removal thing for it but he doesn’t have a different computer and he is long distance for now. Is there any possible way that he could do it manually on his computer through a series of steps that I could read off to him? Is there any way that I could help him since I have a working good computer from a distance? Please help as soon as possible. Thank you. If you have a question please ask about the computer and I will update with details on the question board.

Tell him to boot into safe mode (usually done by hitting f8 repeatedly on startup)
Safe mode is essentially just that no unnecessary apps are permitted to startup during boot, just basic drivers. It should help him get onto the net to download the fix for it.

Tell him to Try Starting in Safe Mode. Search google If you Don’t know how to do it. Make sure you use start in safe mode with networking
After he’s in safe mode. Goto start and run or for vista and seven just type in msconfig and click startup tab and disable any weird looking malware programs. after you are done just click apply and ok and restart the computer. you may also want to look through the services tab and click hide all microsoft services and look for any suspicious services that are starting. good luck!

Alright well if you don’t like these other guys’ solutions then here’s mine. E-mail me if confused.
Step 1. You must go here http://www.avira.com/en/support-download… and download the iso type file.
    2. Burn the iso onto a blank DVD.
    3. Mail him the DVD
    4. Tell him to get the DVD into his drive and reboot. If Microsoft Windows boots up instead of the CD e-mail me about boot ordering
    5. Tell him to follow the on screen instructions to scan his hard drive (should be C:)
    6. Rejoice and reboot holding down the shift key.
