Should I Get My Mother An Ipad For Her Birthday?

My mom is starting school again this summer. She’s only one semester away from her psychology degree so she can be a school counselor. I am so unbelievably proud of her. She’s working two jobs currently, One full time at night and one part time during the day. She just works really hard and she’s doing it for me and my brother. And on top of all of that she’s finishing her degree! I think she’s just awesome. So I want to do something really nice for her for her birthday and I thought that I wanted to get her something to help with her school and just to organize her life.
She inherited my old laptop from high school which is… Les than perfect to say the least. One of the big reasons why I got a new one was because I couldn’t even get the thing to connect to the wifi on campus, and she’ll be on that same campus this summer. I thought that an ipad would be a good choice because 1) My macbook pro has been incredible for me, I get everything done so much faster and I never have any problems at all and that’s the kind of reliability I want fer her and 2) I want to get her something really simple that she can just use away from home every day. Since she already has an actual computer that runs fine at home when it stays on her desk, I thought it would be best to just supplement it with something else for use away from home. I’ve toyed around with the idea of the netbook but I think she would find tiny screens and keyboard extremely frustrating. That and she would need an extremely good battery life because she would only be able to charge it for a few hours in the mornings when she gets home (her phone dies all the time from her not having time to plug it in during the day).
She’s not terribly technologically savvy. She once called me thinking she got a computer virus when she accidentally opened Internet Explorer instead of Firefox. so I thought the whole touch anything you see approach would be really easy for her. I was thinking that if I got her a Zagg keyboard case and just a smart cover she could just use it for anything she needs to and it would fit in her bag.
But I now there are other options out there so I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for something else that she could use. I just thought the iPad seemed like it was the best out there for my mom. Price isn’t really an issue because I have enough money saved up to get it for her already. I could buy it today if I wanted to, but I want to give it to her for her birthday in May.
So any recommendations? Thoughts? I know this was long, sorry about that. But thanks in advance.
