Everyone has probably received a call from a scam artist saying that they have a virus on their computer and that they are going to help you remove it… Claiming that they are from Microsoft or some other possibly legit company. Anyway i want to have fun and im wondering if i set up a virtual Machine and let them mess with that… ie do their remote access/ install etc, then once they are off the phone then delete the virtual machine. Is this going to be unsafe? can they get past the VM into the OS? Also any tips or tricks for these scammers would be appreciated… Thanks

hey Thomas, i hope this helps u….http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/cold-callin…
As long as the VM is not sharing any folders with the host then it is a completely isolated system thats the point to it. But really why bother yes its fun to waste their time but its quite interesting to stall them in a minute or so. I got the call stating that they were microsoft support and that they had detected a virus on my machine and would like to help me clear it off, could i login and allow them to access it. I asked them how they knew i had it and they tried to explain it was a output from a microsoft file….only problem i dont run windows i use ubuntu and ubuntu server, so how did it send a microsoft message.. that stalled them out and they hung up…
