Virtual Pc Doctor Scam?

By mobile virus Posted in: phone virus

Just a mere half an hour ago, I received a strange phone call from a some woman who insisted she was from some computer maintenance company and was persistently asking me to start my computer and ran me through all these things. At the end of it, she was basically in hysterics (or not?) and was claiming that my computer was severely infected and that I could lose everything. She proceeded to guide me to this website that allowed me to connect to an apparent ”qualified technician” so that he could take control of my computer and even guide the mouse. He installed various things into my computer which seemed like anti virus programs, but i suspected that they were something more sinister. After asking for a credit card number, it struck me as ominous that they knew my phone number when I never even contacted them before, so I began to get very alarmed. After ending the call immediately, I restarted my computer and removed every single virus program that they had installed. They claimed that they were sending out these calls to every user of a windows program, but after I had hung up, none of my friends received a call and they ALL use windows programs. Im beginning to feel very alarmed now because I had divulged my first name to them. So what do you think?
Scam or Genuine?

  1. Daedalus Says

OMG you got scammed badly. First you should uninstall ANY program that they installed. However I would recommended that you REINSTALL WINDOWS just to be sure because they could have modified your operating system.
You most likely got scammed and they tracked you down and installed malicious software onto your computer / made your computer vulnerable to attacks.
In the future be careful and if in doubt hang up and call Microsoft as this scam is a popular one among thieves.

  2. Tim Says

    Scam.
If you have given your credit details get on to your bank RIGHT NOW and get them cancelled.
They probably have put on software to pick up keystrokes and any info such as passwords.
Unfortunately to officially clear all that properly you would be best backing up your system and completly formatting your PC or at the very least run a very good anti virus and anti malware software.
