Why Can’t I Get Into Any Of My Usb’s, & Sd Card?

By mobile virus Posted in: phone virus

My computer isnt taking any of my flash drives or my sd card frm my phone when i connect it to my computer. It tells me the same thing when i connect it, It says format it & then when i go to do that, it doesnt do it successfully. Now im left with 2 flash drives that “say” they have nothing on it & a SD Card That has nothing on it & now when i put the SD Card in my phone, it says its blank Or just dont have 1.. Please help me out because i have a bad feeling this virus or whatever it is will spread throughout the whole comnputer. & in addition, If anybody knows WHAT virus is doing this, Please tell me what to do to get rid of it because AVG isnt picking it up & says my computer is perfectly fine.

i don’t think it is a virus (not to agree with your AV program), but depending on a few things, it MIGHT be either the drives themselves, or the connection to the computer.
    1. can you put them in another computer and they work?
if yes, then the problem is definitely computer related. otherwise, it could just be the device(s).
    2. were your USB drives used in a Mac computer?
they may have been formatted for Mac, and won’t work on Windows without reformatting.
    3. have you tried formatting the SD card? does it work afterwards?
if you’ve formatted the SD card, and it still does not allow access, then it is definitely a USB issue. even your SD reader goes thru a 4-pin USB connection on the motherboard (or a 9-pin connector).
    4. have you tried a different USB port? if you had it plugged in in the back of the PC, try the ports on the front. if you had them plugged in in the front, try the back.
if it works in one and not the other, then the port is to blame, and should be troubleshooted individually.
if the back works fine, but the front USB won’t work properly, it may be the connection on the motherboard is loose or the wire is bad. not a whole lot you can do about bad wire, other than get a new card reader, but if the motherboard connection is the problem, you might see if the board has another USB connector on it. you may need a professional to determine this.
if the front AND back don’t work, it is defeinitely a problem with the USB port hardware itself. try using oother USB devices (keyboard or muse). if THEY work, then it may actually be your USB Mass Storage driver needs reinstalled. this is tricky to explain, but i would need to know the make and the model number from your PC to give you specifics…
